Aruba ist eine der drei ABC-Inseln (Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao), die geologisch zu Südamerika gehören und Teil der Kleinen Antillen in der südlichen Karibik sind. Sie ist die westlichste und kleinste der drei ABC-Inseln. Sie ist überwiegend flach, max. 30 km lang und max. 9 km breit. Die Anreise aus Deutschland (meist über Amsterdam ) beträgt knapp 12 Flugstunden (mit Umsteigen). Aruba liegt außerhalb der Orkanzone und genießt damit ganzjährig Sonnenwetter und kühlende Passatwinde. Die Insel hat mehr zu bieten als nur kilometerlange Strände, Palmen und Flamingos.
Aruba eignet sich wunderbar für alle, die gerne im Urlaub aktiv sind und mehr als nur Strandurlaub erleben wollen.

Aktivitäten auf Aruba – Highlights der Insel & Reisetipps
Butterfly Farm – Im Bann der Schmetterlinge
Die Schmetterlingsfarm findet ihr in der Nähe von Palm Beach und könnt hier zwei Stunden für einen Besuch einplanen. Hunderte exotische Schmetterlinge, Raupen und Puppen in einem großen Gehege könnt ihr hier frei bewundern. Die Schmetterlinge fliegen zu hunderten um euch herum. An den Futterstationen könnt ihr sie aus aller Nähe beobachten. Es werden zudem kleinere Touren (ca. 15-20 Minuten) angeboten, die empfehlenswert sind, da man hier jede Menge wissenswerte Informationen bekommt. Der Eintritt kostet 15 USD.
Segeln mit einem Piratenboot – Schnorcheln nach dem verloreneren Wrack
Jede Menge Spaß und Action bietet die Tour mit Jolly Pirates Cruises. Ihr verbringt einen halben Tag auf See und könnt ich zu Wasser und in der Luft austoben. Die Tour beginnt in der Regel früh am morgen vom Moomba Beach und kostet ca. 60$ pro Person. Inkludiert ist die Schnorchelausrüstung, Getränke ( auch Alkohol gibt es hier an Board) und ein Mittagessen. Das Schiff sieht tatsächlich aus wie ein altes Piratenschiff und zahlreiche Gäste finden hier Platz.

Das Schiff macht einige Stops zum Schnorcheln. Das Highlight ist sicherlich das alte Schiffswrack welches auch ohne große Tauchkünste knapp unter der Wasseroberfläche zur sehen ist. Der letzte Stop sorgt für die letzte Abkühlung auf dieser Tour. Die Gäste können sich hier von einer Plattform in Wasser stürzen. Hängend an einem Seil wird man hier nett vom Personal ins Wasser geschubst. Die Tour bietet definitiv jede Menge Spaß für die ganze Familie.

Aruba hat jede Menge tolle Plätze zum Schnorcheln ( und zahlreiche Schätze, die man Unterwasser findet) und eine einzige Kayak Vermietung auf der ganzen Insel. Mit dem Anbieter Kayak Adventure Aruba könnt ihr zwischen zwei Touren wählen. „De Palm Island“ Tour oder die „Mangel Halto Reef“ Tour jeweils mit einem längeren Schnorchel Aufenthalt und Mittagessen. Vor Ort bekommt ihr eine Sicherheitseinweisung und Schwimmwesten, denn auch wenn das Wasser ruhig zu sein scheint, kann die See unterwegs die Wellen zum Tanzen bringen. Die Tour ist auch für Anfänger sehr gut geeignet, denn im besten Fall sitzt man zu zweit in einem Kayak. Es gibt zudem zwei Guides, die den Weg vorgeben und die Schlusslichter beobachten, so dass alle gemeinsam entlang der malerischen Bucht bis zu den Mangroven sicher ankommen. Diese Tour ist unbedingt ein Muß für alle, die hier Urlaub machen. Eine traumhafte Kulisse über und unter Wasser und jede Menge Spaß garantiert. Unbedingt an einen sehr hohen Sonnenschutz und die passende Kleidung denken, denn die Sonneneinstrahlung ist hier sehr hoch.

Streetart in San Nicholas – Karibische Kunst und Kultur entdecken
Aruba ist bunt und fröhlich an jeder Ecke, doch diese Kunstwerke darf man sich nicht entgehen lassen. An jeder Ecke zieren (auch 3D)Malereien und Graffitis die Häuserwände und machen den Stadtteil San Nicolas zu einem besonderem Erlebnis. Die Gassen führen die Besucher zu zahlreichen Kunstwerken von lokalen und Holländischen Künstlerin und verschönern die kleinen Shops und Häuser. Für diese Tour könnt ihr 1-2 Stunden einplanen und auch mit einem Bus erreicht ihr den Bezirk sehr gut. Wer hier seine Tour beendet hat, der sollte unbedingt das Mittagessen in der bekannten Charlie’s Bar probieren.
Charlie’s Bar Restaurant ist nur wenige Minuten entfernt und nicht nur kulinarisch ein Hingucker. Das Restaurant ist ein Sammelsurium aus Allem. Beim Eintreten ist es schwer wegzugucken bzw. man weiss eigentlich gar nicht wo man zu erst hingucken soll. Auch hier sind die Wände voll mit alten Sachen – von Banknoten bis zu alten Kameras hängt hier tatsächlich alles. Die Menu Karte ist übersichtlich, dafür das Essen einfach nur köstlich (und auch gerne scharf).
Wandern, Staunen & Joggen im Arikok National Park
Der Arikok National Park nimmt fast ein Fünftel der Insel ein und mit gut markierten Wanderpfaden (fast 32km lang) ein perfekter Ort für einen aktiven Urlaub. Die Landschaft wird größtenteils durch gigantische Kakteen geprägt und wilde Strände, die zum Windsurfen einladen. Das Baden ist in den bekannten Buchten, wie Dos Playas oder Boca Grandi aufgrund der starken Strömung nicht empfehlenswert. Hier kann man gemütlich den Wassersportlern zugucken oder einfach die Aussicht bestaunen.
Ein Tagesausflug durch den Park verspricht jede Menge Abwechslung und Unerwartetes. An der Nordküste des Parks finden sich zwei gut zugängliche Höhlen. In Fontain liegt die erste Höhle, die von Indianern geschaffene Felsmalereien sowie Zeichnungen aus der Hand früher europäischer Siedler ziert. Unweit liegt auch gleich die zweite Höhle (Quadirikiri) , die in der Decke eine Öffnung hat, durch die das Tageslicht einbricht und ein sensationelles Bild bietet.

Besonderheiten auf Aruba – Kulinarische Ereignisse
Auf Aruba findet ihr besonders in Palm Beach jede Menge gute und exklusive Restaurants mit europäischen Gerichten. Wer jedoch etwas risikofreudiger ist, der sollte nach der „Papaya“ Sosse zum Essen fragen. Eine scharfe Chilisosse, die jedem Gericht noch die passende Würze verleiht. Etwas Vorsicht ist geboten, denn diese Köstlichkeit ist tatsächlich nicht für jeden Magen. Die knusprigen Bananenchips oder Süsskartoffel Pommes sind ebenfalls empfehlenswert und sollten bei einem Mittagessen nicht fehlen.

Unterkunft & Reisetipps
Entlang der Küste findet ihr zahlreiche Hochpreisige Hotels mit direkter Strandlage und traumhaften Stränden. Wer jedoch gerne etwas abseits Troubles entspannen möchte und eher etwas gemütliches sucht, dem empfehle ich die Aruba Sunset Beach Studios. Knapp 500 m vom Hadicurari Strand entfernt und damit von zahlreichen Geschäften und Restaurant sind die kleinen Apartments in einen kleinen tropischen Garten mit einem Pool angeordnet. Für einen Preis von ab 100$ pro Nacht findet ihr eine familiäre Atmosphäre und jede Menge Ruhe. Zweckmäßig mit einer kleinen Küchenecke eingerichtet, sind die Studios für Paare und Familien sehr gut geeignet. Entlang der Straße am Strand könnt ihr zudem jeden Morgen in beide Richtungen entspannt joggen.

Die Karibische Sonne ist sehr stark und einen Sonnenmilch mit einem Lichtschutzfaktor 50 und eine Kopfbedeckung ein Muß. Geld könnt ihr an vielen Automaten in der Stadt problemlos abheben oder einfach in den Geschäften mit eurer Kreditkarte bezahlen. In den Restaurants ist das Trinkgeld teilweise schon auf der Rechnung vermerkrt, daher hier kurz vor dem Bezahlen prüfen. Für einen längeren Aufenthalt ist ein Mietwagen von Vorteil, denn auch wenn sich hier eine Bushaltestelle vor der Tür befindet und man mehrmals die Stunde in beide Richtungen kommt, so ist praktischer und schneller mit einem eigenen Auto.
Die Flamingos auf Aruba – Vorsicht geboten
Viele warten bestimmt aus die bekannten Fotos der Flamingos aus Aruba. Ich möchte alle Leser bitten, diesen Punkt mit Vorsicht zu geniessen, denn diese schönen Tiere ( inzwischen auch nur noch fünf) sind hier eigentlich nur eine Hotel Attraktion und leben nicht in Freiheit ( sowie auf Bonaire). Die Flügel sind gestützt, damit die Flamingos den relativ übersichtlichen Strand (Renaissance Island) auf und ab laufen können und den Hotelgästen in der Tat als Fotomotiv dienen. Tiere gehören in die freie Natur und sollten nicht für Selfie Motive dienen. Wer das mit seinem Gewissen vereinbaren kann, der muss jedoch knapp 100 $ zahlen (sofern er kein Hotel Gast ist) um den Strand besuchen zu können. Für mich ist dieser Punkt daher kein Highlight.
