So wunderschön ist Athen – Meine Impressionen und Reisetipps für den nächsten Urlaub
Athen ist die griechische Hauptstadt mit ca. 745,500 Einwohnern und liegt in Mitten dreier Gebirgszüge und mit einer Seite zum Meer (Saronischer Golf). Athen ist die flächengrößte und bevölkerungsreichste Stadt des Landes und so gibt es hier viel zu entdecken und nochmehr beeindruckende Plätze. Was ist in Athen unternehmen könnt und wo es die schönsten Ecken gibt, könnt ihr hier in meinen persönlichen Reisetipps nachlesen.
Anreise & Flug
Athen ist aus Deutschland sehr gut erreichbar und einen Flug mit Aegean Airlines bekommt man schon ab 59,95€ in der günstigen Reisezeit. Die Flugdauer liegt bei knapp 2,5 Stunden und ist perfekt für einen Kurzurlaub geeignet. Da ich mit der Airline bereits mehrere Male geflogen bin, kann ich diese für eine Reise nach Griechenland wärmstens empfehlen.

Hotel & Unterkunft
In Athen werdet ihr in jeder Preiskategorie eine Unterkunft finden. Meine Empfehlung ist das Electra Metropolis Hotel, welches genau im Zentrum in der Nähe von Plaka und der Acropolis liegt. Das Hotel ist sehr neu und damit auch modern und elegant eingerichtet. Mit etwas Glück bekommt man auch ein Zimmer mit der Aussicht auf die Acropolis. Für alle anderen empfiehlt sich hier die Terrasse des Hotel mit dem garantieren Blick auf die Acropolis und die Stadt. Ein Pool auf der Dachterrasse sorgt für die nötige Abkühlung und bei kühleren Temperaturen steht zusätzlich noch ein Indoor Pool zur Verfügung. Ein gemütlicher Spaziergang zur Akropolis dauert hier knapp 15 Minuten vom Hotel und alle Geschäfte und Restaurants sind in der unmittelbaren Umgebung.

Sehenswürdigkeiten : Akropolis
Athen ist bekannt für die zahlreichen historischen und antiken Bauten. Viele nennen es Touristen Hot Spots, doch gerade diese Plätze machen die Stadt erst interessant. Rom ohne Trevi Brunnen und Vatikanstadt wäre vielleicht auch nur halb so interessant. Der Besuch der typischen Sehenswürdigkeiten lohnt sich hier daher definitiv. „Reisen bildet“ – daher muss man diese Gelegenheit nutzen, und diese zahlreichen interessanten Plätze besuchen. Alles andere wäre schon fast ein Vergehen.

Die Akropolis liegt im Zentrum von Athen und ist vom Hotel zu Fuß erreichbar. Ein Spaziergang durch die Stadt dauert ca. 15-20 Minuten. Der Eintritt kostet hier 20€. Zu sehen sind jedoch auch noch der kleinere Nike-Tempel mit einem Relief aus Götterfiguren und weitere Heiligtümer, wie z.B. die Propyläen, der aus Marmor errichtete Eingang der Akropolis.
Empfehlenswert ist jedoch ein Sammelticket für 30€ , mit dem ihr die wichtigsten Sehenswürdigkeiten besuchen könnt (Akropolis, Griechische Agora und Museum, Kerameikos und Museum, Hadrians Bibliothek, Olympieion und Römische Agora)

Die Akropolis ist Athens Hauptattraktion und eines der meistbesuchten und fotografierten Bauwerke in Griechenland, daher werdet ihr hier immer zahlreiche Touristen vorfinden und selten einen Zeitpunkt haben, an dem ihr das Bauwerk ungestört besuchen könnt.

Areopagus Hill – Der perfekte Ort für einen Sonnenuntergang
Auf dem Gelände der Akropolis befindet sich auch der Zugang zu dem Areopagus Hügel (am westlichen Eingang), der jedoch frei zugänglich ist. Von hier hat man die beste Aussicht auf die Akropolis und Agora. Viele Touristen und Einheimischen machen es sich zum Sonnenuntergang hier gemütlich. Auf dem Plateau des Hügels (Mars Hügel) sollte man vorsichtig sein und festes Schuhwerk tragen, da die teils rutschigen Felsen nicht ganz ungefährlich sind. Zu nahe sollte man sich auch nicht an die Klippen heranwagen, denn es gibt hier keine Absperrung.

Lykabettos Hill – Über den Dächern von Athen
Dieser Aussichtspunkt ist ebenfalls ein Stadtberg Athens und mit 277 Metern die höchste Erhebung in der Stadt. Mit der Metro könnt ihr bis zur Station „Evangelismos“ fahren und von der bis zur Seilbahn laufen. Der Eintritt zur Seilbahn kostet 7€ und bringt euch jede halbe Stunde bis ganz nach oben. Neben der Seilbahn befindet sich jedoch ein kleiner Wanderweg, der kostenlos ist und ebenfalls nach oben führt.

Sehenswert ist hier ganz oben die kleine Kapelle Agios Georgios oder auch das etwas tiefer gelegene Lykabettos Theater, in dem im Sommer Musik- und Tanzveranstaltungen statt finden. Oben auf dem Hügel könnt ihr auch gemütlich in dem Restaurant die Sicht von oben geniessen und eine Mittagspause einlegen.
Plaka & Monastiraki
Plaka ist eins der ältesten Stadtteile Athens am Fuß der Akropolis. Monastiraki ist ein Teil der Plaka und das Flohmarktviertel der Stadt. Hier findet man zahlreiche Läden mit Antiquitäten, Ledersachen, Souvenirs und jede Menge Cafes und Tavernen.

Der Monastiraki-Platz ist der zentrale Platz der Plaka. Hier kann man sich gemütlich hinsetzen und einfach nur die Menschen beobachten. Sonntags gibt es hier einen richtigen Flohmarkt und es gibt jede Menge zu sehen. Egal ob man nun zum Einkaufen in das Viertel kommt oder einfach nur zum Flanieren und Beobachten, die Atmosphäre und der Rhythmus ziehen die Einheimischen und die Besucher in ihren Bann.

Essen & Restaurants
Im Zentrum von Athen im Stadtteil Plaka habt ihr die Qual der Wahl an Restaurants und Tavernen. Die Preise sind jedoch im Touristenviertel alle ähnlich. So zahlt man für einen Griechischen Salat ca. 5€ und für ein Gyros Gericht mit viel Tzatziki und Pita Brot ca. 9€.
Ich habe in verschiedenen Tavernen, wo man schon beim Vorbeilaufen freundlich hereingebeten wird, zu Mittag gegessen und bin wirklich sehr positiv überrascht wie schnell das Essen gebracht wurde und wie einheitlich gut es war. Jeder Salat war tatsächlich gut angerichtet und mit den typischen Kräutern garniert. Beim Gyros Gericht könnt ihr teilweise zwischen Hühnchen oder Schweinefleisch wählen. Beides schmeckt einfach nur fantastisch gut..
Die Küste von Athen
Entlang des Ägäischen Meers an wunderschönen Erhebungen und Küstenlandschaften fährt man in Richtung Kap Sounion entlang. Hier findet ihr kleinere Dörfer, kleinere öffentliche Strände und auch jede Menge Hotels. Die Fahrt dauert ca. 1 Stunde, je nach Verkehr und hier gibt es wirklich fantastische Aussichtspunkte auf dem Weg zu sehen.
Ein Tag am Vouliagmeni See – Der „Heilende“ See
Wer sich richtig entspannen möchte, dem empfehle ich einen Tag am See. Nur 24 km von Athen entfernt könnt ihr hier für 12€ einen ganzen Tag im Kristall klaren See baden. Das Wasser des See weist eine konstante Temperatur von 22-27 Grad Celsius. Der See ist durch seine einzigartige Mischung unterschiedlicher Salze auch als Naturdenkmal gelistet und kann bei Hautkrankheiten, chronischen Rückenschmerzen oder Arthritis kleine Wunder bewirken.

Der See bietet Entspannung für die ganze Familie. Ein gemütliches Restaurant und zahlreiche Liegen machen den Aufenthalt zu einem tollen Erlebnis.
Der Poseidon Tempel
Der Poseidon Tempel befindet sich ca. 80km südlich von Athen am Kap Sounion. Ihr erreicht den Tempel entweder mit einem lokalen Bus, einer geführten Tour oder einem Mietwagen. Der beste Zeitpunkt für einen Besuch ist hier der früher Abend bevor die Sonne untergeht. Der Tempel steht auf einem felsigen Hügel über dem Ägäischen Meer und bietet eine malerische Aussicht über den Saronischen Golf.

Der Tempel ist von April bis Februar täglich geöffnet und für eine geringe Eintrittsgebühr kann man hier zudem wunderschöne Urlaubsfotos mitnehmen.
Fazit & Tipps
Für einen Urlaub in Athen sollte man schon mindesten vier Tage einplanen um die zahlreichen Historischen Sehenswürdigkeiten zu sehen und auch die Fahrt entlang der Küste zu geniessen. Ihr bekommt in jedem guten Hotel oder an den Sehenswürdigkeiten immer eine Karte, die euch zu den wichtigsten Punkten in der Umgebung führt. Besonders im Sommer ist ein Sonnenschutz und eine Kopfbedeckung sehr wichtig, denn die Temperaturen können hier auf 35-40 Grad Celsius steigen. Festes Schuhwerk für die Wanderungen ist vorteilhaft, aber nicht unbedingt ein Muss.
Athen wird euch mit den zahlreichen Aussichtspunkten verzaubern und die historischen Sehenswürdigkeiten versetzen euch in das Antike Zeitalter. Für Entspannung sorgt der See oder ein Tag am Strand.
