Von Mombasa über Tsavo East nach Tsavo West und zurück
Mitte Juni durfte ich zusammen mit Filmemacher Deutschland und Magical Kenya auf eine 7-tägige Reise nach Kenia. Der Schwerpunkt unserer Reise lag darin, die Kultur sowie die Natur innerhalb des Tsavo Nationalparks kennenzulernen. Ich freue mich nun euch von dieser wirklich eindrucksvollen Reise berichten zu dürfen!
Tsavo East – Der flache Teil des Nationalparks

Tsavo East National Park war die erste Destination von Mombasa aus, die wir angesteuert haben. Die Fahrt dauerte etwa sieben Stunden, doch wenn ihr auf eigene Faust losziehen möchtet, habt ihr dank neuester Zugverbindungen jetzt die Möglichkeit schneller und vor allem bequemer ans Ziel zu kommen, da die Autofahrt auf Grund von kilometerlangen Staus und Fahrbahnerneuerungen eine ziemlich verrüttelte Angelegenheit ist. Unsere Unterkunft für die Zeit in dieser Hälfte des Parks war das Satao Camp, eine Lodge die sehr viel Wert auf Naturschutz und Artenschutz legt. Bereits bei der Ankunft im Camp kann einen schnellen Blick durch das Anwesen auf die Tierherden im Hintergrund erhaschen! Direkt neben den Unterkünften der Gäste, betreibt das Hotel nämlich ein Wasserloch, welches sämtliche Tierarten als Trinkquelle 24/7 nutzen. Die Gäste des Camps erleben somit ganz ungezwungen – und ohne Zaun – „Wildlife“ pur!

Dieser Teil des riesigen Nationalparks ist sehr flach, was es sich einfach gestaltet Tiere auf Safaris zu entdecken und zu fotografieren. Das Hotel hat uns außerdem auf einen „Sundowner“ mitten im Busch eingeladen, von wo aus man die Sonne perfekt untergehen sieht und die Sterne dank kompletter Dunkelheit sehr gut sichtbar sind.

Tsavo West- Der bergige Teil des Nationalparks
Von Ost nach West. Es ist kaum vorstellbar, wie stark sich die beiden Abschnitte des Parks doch unterscheiden. Von der trockenen Savanne fuhren wir binnen weniger Stunden in den grünen, bergigen Teil, wo wir für die restlichen Tage in dem wohlbekannten Finch Hattons Luxury Camp untergebracht waren. Neben Walking Safari, Dinner im Busch, Spa und Wanderungen, ist meine Empfehlung für diese Region ein Besuch bei den Maasai (nicht touristisch aufgemacht!).
Dinner im Freien zum Sonnenuntergang mit Finch Hattons
Zunächst muss ich ein Lob an das Personal des Camps loswerden. Der Service und die positive Einstellung aller Angestellten, des Managements sowie bei den Rangern macht alles so viel entspannter, fröhlicher und angenehmer. Der Service war wirklich erstklassig!
Das Finch Hattons hat einen gehobenen Standard was sofort bei der Ankunft im Camp deutlich wird. Kühle Tücher, Abnahme des Gepäcks, Erfrischung und dann sind da noch die Unterkünfte: Sehr klassischer Stil mit hohem Grad an Luxus. Der Aufbau der Zimmer unterscheidet sich in allen Kategorien wenig. Für Familien oder in der Presidential Suite gibt es jedoch mehr Räumlichkeiten und weitere Extras wie einen eigenen Pool. Das Anwesen ist um kleinere Seen herum erbaut, und bietet neben eigenen Spa und Fitnessstudio auch gut ausgebaute Infrastruktur. Zu beachten ist jedoch, dass nachts der Generator abgestellt wird und es dann keinen Strom gibt. Das Management hat sich jedoch während unseres Aufenthalts sehr flexibel mit der Uhrzeit gezeigt.

Auf unserer morgendlichen Walking Safari haben wir leider nur wenige Tiere auf Entfernung sehen können und eine Elefantenherde gerade so verpasst, aber die Spannung und das Gefühl im Busch unterwegs zu sein, war grandios! Neben dem Wildlife und der Natur stand als kultureller Teil ein Besuch bei den Maasai auf dem Programm. Falls ihr jetzt denkt „mhh. Ja, könnte ganz nett sein, aber das ist wahrscheinlich zu touristisch aufgemacht“, Nein! Die Maasai-Dörfer sind sehr authentisch. Ja, sie sind an Besuche von Touristen gewöhnt, aber sie leben traditionell dort auf ihrem privaten Land innerhalb des Nationalparks. Hier könnt ihr die Häuschen besichtigen, mit den Kindern spielen oder mit den Erwachsenen tanzen. Auch gibt es die Möglichkeit selbstgemachte Souvenirs und Schmuck zu kaufen. Definitiv einen Ausflug wert (siehe in unserem Video)!

Und nun? East oder West?
Das ist nicht einfach zu beantworten aber eine Frage die ihr euch stellen könnte ist: „Was interessiert mich am meisten, Wildlife oder der Luxus/Kultur/Wildlife Mix?“ – Bessere Tierportraits konnte ich definitiv im östlichen Teil machen, da die Tiere hier schon von Weitem sichtbar sind und direkt in unser Camp gelaufen sind. Im Westen haben wir auch jede Menge Tiere sehen können, jedoch nur bei der Überquerung der „Straßen“, da das Gebüsch hier sehr dicht ist. Bei den Lodges ist das Finch Hattons exklusiver und bietet mehr Luxus. Das Satao Camp bietet dafür ein besseres Outdoor-Erlebnis.
Am besten ihr verbringt auch jeweils 2-3 Tage an jeder Location und macht euch selbst ein Bild davon, wie unterschiedlich die Natur auch innerhalb desselben Nationalparks sein kann!
