Sensimar Beachfront Resort in Khao Lak – my first time in Thailand!
Thailand was always a very exotic destination for me and after this week i real felt in love with this country and i will come back again for sure. Just to show you some impressions i have collected you can watch the video (its also available in HD quality)
The journey takes about 10-13 hours from Berlin, but if you like to see this Wanderflug country it is worth it. I arrived early afternoon at the airport in Phuket and the Bus tour to the Hotel SENSIMAR Beachfront Resort in Khao Lak takes about 1 hour. On the way to the Hotel i was already impressed by the view and knew that this journey is going to be a very special one.
Here is my first experience in Thailand and some advices for you if you are traveling for the first time to Thailand ( Advices can be found at the end).
The Hotel is located close to the beach in a very green area surrounded by many palms and trees – almost like in a jungle.
Die Hotel area is very green and fresh, on the way to the room i crossed two pools, which are in front of the apartment building.
When is saw my Bungalow surrounded by Palm i was even more happy to be here.
The room is pretty big and owns a cosy terasse , with a nice view. The bathroom has a great big window with a fantastic view, while sitting in the bathtub.
I was too excited about exploring the rest, that i didn’t stay that long in the room.
Just few steps away i found that hammocks with an amazing view of the beach. The noise of the waves directed my straight away to the beach.
35°degrees , feeling the warm sunshine on my skin and this view! At the beach you can find many sunbeds from the hotel which are for free.
The beach in front of the hotel is very huge and you can go for a long walk in with directions.
On some points you will find some rocks which create a very beautiful view of the beach.
The Hotel area is not that huge, so you can easily walk in about 5 minutes from the Rezeption to the beach. You will find a big main pool and two separate pools in front of the apartments. The SENSIMAR Hotel is a so called “adult only” Hotel, which means that kids are not allowed and there are no big loud activities during the day. The Hotel is perfect for couples who just wants to relax.
Can you spot my bungalow in the back ? It’s just few steps away from the pool and the beach.
You can find every day a weekly schedule with all activities and special events – like Sunset Yoga at the beach or activities in the gym. I don’t really need that kind of program to relax – i am satisfied to see the magic colors of the sunset and hear the waves – this is the way how i can relax.
Watching a sunset and feeling the warm sunshine is everytime a very special moment for me.
The SENSIMAR Beachfront Resort is located close to the city with many bars, restaurants and shops. Just 5 minutes walk and you can enjoy the typical thai food, some thai massage as well 🙂 or just go shopping.
WHAT ELSE CAN YOU DO DURING THE TRIP?
LOCAL FOOD & THAI MASSAGE:
When you go for a walk at the beach watch out for local beach bars or restaurants and the typical massage beds as they are inbetween the Hotels and you should try them.
Few mintues away from the hotel i found this amazing local restaurant at the beach. The bar looks maybe bit different then a luxury restaurant, but the food and the price was more then excellent. A spicy chicken soup, rice and Chicken Satay with drinks as a main dish for tow persons costs about 8 -10 €! And i promise you it is very delicious!
After the lunch the next stop was the Massage point at the beach – maybe its stupid, but this was what i was looking while coming to Thailand 🙂 The prices in Germany are quite high and having a massage at the beach for one hour for around 8 € was a very good way to get more relaxed. Be sure to mention to have a soft thai massage, otherwise it can be bit hard 🙂
EXPLORING THE ISLANDS:
Of course you will find many great offers in the hotel but also in the city. It’s up to you where you book the trip – just take a look about the duration and the price if you decide to book a tour. I decided to visit the famous SURIN ISLANDS .
I was picked up by a local bus with other hotel guest at around 7 am and it took 1 hour to get to the harbor where the speedboat was waiting for us. We had also a small breakfast and the chance to buy some local food as you can see in the picture above.
After 1 hour with the speedboat we reached a small village called “Moken Village” – a nomadic , sea-based culture or Sea Gypsies.
MOKEN VILLAGE:
The people are living in small self made houses and using simple tools such as nets and spears to forage for food.
It was a short stop for about 10 minutes in this village.
You can buy some local souvenirs which are made by the kids. 
Because of the amount of time they spend diving for food.
We continue the trip with the speedboat directly to the Surin Islands.
As the area is protected its not allowed to reach the beach with the big boat. We have to take one of the small typical fisherman’s boats.
Arriving at that paradise island we habe about 2-3 hours time to explore the island on our own after a very typical and delicious lunch.
This was the local Lunch restaurant.
As this is a national park and protected the water is very clear and blue. There are several rules how to behave on that island to keep the nature alive.
On the one side of the island you can clearly hear the boats arriving with food or new tourists.
I found this relaxing place between the trees with a perfect view for a small nap 🙂 It was very hot, that’s why i was a bit hiding.
After the 2 hours we had to leave this island for a next stop.
This is the typical boat which is a kind of transfer to the big speed boat. I should mention that they are very loud 🙂
Finally we arrived at this place to do some snorkeling! Looks at the color of the water!
For snorkeling you will get all the equipment by the tour guide on the boat and also a very good instruction if you never went snorkeling before. You should try this as the water is not very deep but you will see a very colorful underwater life.
You should wear a shirt if you go snorkeling or avery high sun protection as the sun is very hot and after 30 minutes snorkeling you might get a sunburn as i had 🙂
The tour was over at 16h and we got back to the harbor where the bus took us back to the hotel.
ENJOY SUNSETS:
It is something very simple – but many people never do this back at home they are complaining about the weather and dream about magic sunsets. Just take some time and try this! Why not living the dream ?
I guess many of you realized that i am addicted to sunsets.
Looking at this picture back in cold Germany i want to go back!
But why am i addicted to sunsets ? It’s a kind of power to enjoy that changing colors, the light and warm atmosphere. With every minute the light is changing i realize more and more how far away i am from home.
Those memories are maybe just pictures but they make me feel for a second how this moment was.
18.30 h and the sunset is over and the people left the beach to prepare for dinner.
EXPLORE THE CITY AND VISIT THE LOCAL MARKET:
I mentioned before, that the location of the hotel is just the best as just 5 minutes walk and you reach the main street with all local shops, souvenirs, bars restaurants and rentals.
Almost everyone is driving a motorbike and so i was too – you will find many motorbike rentals in the city and its very cheap – 5€/Day + 1€ for a bottle of petrol and you are ready to start exploring the city by your own. You just need a passport and the drivers license – thats all.
If you like to visit the famous BANG NIANG Market – its about 10 minutes drive from the Hotel (close to the Tsunami memorial).
Ok, i have already seen that kind of market on TV and was very excited to visit this in real. I am not kidding, you can buy here everything: Clothes, Souvenirs, Food and more food.
At the first sight it looks bit strange to see all the food as its almost cooking in the sun 🙂 But walking around you will see many people enjoying this local food.
Baked Cars, quid, prawns, schicken Scherers, schicken rolls, potato skwers, coconuts and many more – Do you see the price ? 1 piece for 10 THB (bäht) – 25cents!!! You will get a plate and just select what you would like to eat. 
Meanwhile you can sit down in the back and wait till the food is cooked on a small girl next door.
In the beginning i was a bit careful with the food, but this changed immediately after the first plate. This food is fantastic and cheap! The food ist not that spicy at all if you are concenerd – if you like to have it really spicy you can order extra hot sauce.
I was 3 times to order a new plate. In total we had a big lunch for 2 people with drinks and payed for all the food only 5€. Thats also a reason why we went 3 times to the market 🙂
My daily routine was of course the Massage – just to start the day fresh and relaxed.
I was just for a week here and it the beginning i didn’t know what to expect but after that journey i can say : I am in love with the people, the food, the landscape and the weather of course and i know that i will come back as there is more to explore and see. Thats why i already decided to back in December for 2 Weeks 🙂 It was for sure my best journey i ever had!

If you are now ready to visit Thailand here are some advices and general costs:
Massage at the Beach/Cityt: 8 €
Non Alcoholic drinks in the supermarket : Cola, Beer, Water ca. 20-60 Cent
Motorbike: 5 €/ Day + 1 € for a bottle of petrol
Trips: Elephant Bath: 60 €, Trip to Phuket ca. 22 €, Surin Island orSimilan Islands ca. 65€
Cocktails : ca. 3€
Lunch: ca. 5-12 €
Tip: 50 Cent – 2 €
GENERLA INFOS:
- You should buy some bottles of water in the supermarket, especially for teeth brushing as the quality of the water is different to ours
- Avoid eating fresh fruits or salad outside the hotel as it could be washed with normal water from the tap
- Try to negotiate if you buy clothes or souvenirs
- If you decide to book a trip compare the prices and what included (Lunch ? , Snorkeling Equipment)
FAZIT:
It’s a fantatstic Hotel with a perfect loaction for having some action or just to relax. You can reach all important shops also walking ( You can find a detailed review about the hotel at the end)
